OPENING OF THE REGIONAL UNIT IN NOVI SAD

In Novi Sad, in the building of the Apollo Business Center, the Regional Unit of the Agency was officially opened, which, after Kragujevac and Niš, is the third unit outside the headquarters in Belgrade. With this event, within the planned period, the work on one of the special goals, adopted within the Agency's Work Program, was finalized.

The present dignitaries and guests were addressed by Director Dejan Damnjanović and the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, that emphasized the importance of a better understanding of the Agency's competencies to Novi Sad public officials, citizens, civil society organizations and local media.

"We consider the implementation of the Agency’s competencies as a type of moral imperative. We strive for a sound society to be the foundation of the overall stability of the country. We understand the prevention of corruption not only as our job, but as a kind of social mission and responsibility. Its suppression significantly contributes to the creation of a favorable economic environment, which is essential both for the further economic development of the country and the attraction of new, foreign investments, as well as for progress in the process of negotiations for full membership in the European Union," stressed the Director Damnjanović.

On this occasion Mayor Đurić said: "I am very pleased that Novi Sad is the third local self-government in which the regional unit of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption in Serbia is located. The city is an associate and partner of this Agency, with the aim of establishing the best possible communication with citizens. We must together mark corruption as an unacceptable social action, to work on its prevention, and in that mission mutual support and understanding of institutions, citizens and the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption are very important."

In the artistic part of the program, the choir of the Elementary School "Đura Daničić" students took part under the conductorship of Prof. Biljana Oravec.

Traditionally, like in Kragujevac and Niš, a Tree of Friendship was planted in the host city, Director and members of the Council of the Agency laid a wreath on the Memorial Cross and paid respect to the soldiers of 1912-1918.
