Representative of the Agency from the Sector for International Cooperation and Strategic Documents participated in the regional workshop “Multi-Stakeholder Workshop on Implementing UNCAC”, dedicated to strengthening the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which was held from 9 to 11 June in Tirana, organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), with the support of the Austrian Development Agency.
The three-day event brought together representatives of anti-corruption institutions, state authorities, international organizations, and civil society organizations from the Southeast Europe region, who exchanged experiences and good practices in the implementation of anti-corruption policies and international standards.
The participants were introduced to UNODC’s activities in the field of crime prevention and the fight against corruption, with a special focus on the implementation of UNCAC and the mechanisms for monitoring its implementation. Particular attention was devoted to the conclusions and recommendations adopted at the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to UNCAC (CoSP11), as well as to the role of civil society in the process of monitoring the implementation of the Convention.
The workshop examined the possibilities for applying new technologies in preventing corruption in public procurement, including the presentation of UNODC guidelines on the use of technology in this field. Discussions also focused on the importance of transparency in the financing of political entities and election campaigns, as well as on practical mechanisms for strengthening the integrity of political processes.
The participants assessed that such gatherings represent an important platform for advancing the implementation of international standards, strengthening institutional capacities, and developing practical mechanisms for preventing and combating corruption in the region.
