The Agency representative participated in the 17th Session of the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Prevention of Corruption, as well as in a joint meeting with the Group for the Review of the Implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), held from May 20 to May 22, 2026 in Vienna. The meeting was organized within the framework of the Conference of the States Parties to the UNCAC at the Vienna International Centre.
During the meeting, issues of importance for the implementation of the UNCAC were discussed, with a special focus on preventive measures, the exchange of experiences, good practices, and state initiatives in the field of corruption prevention.
Thematic discussions at this year’s session focused on strengthening anti-corruption and ethical education for children and youth, access to information, and the prevention of corruption in sport. The first topic presented experiences and good practices related to youth engagement and the development of anti-corruption education, including examples from institutions in Bolivia, Malta, Ethiopia, Mexico, and Slovenia.
Attention was paid to corruption in sport, including risks associated with illegal betting, match-fixing, major sports competitions, and strengthening integrity within sports organizations. This topic included presentations of initiatives and experiences from Brazil, Madagascar, the United Kingdom, and the International Olympic Committee.
The final part of the session focused on future priorities in the field of corruption prevention for 2027, with an emphasis on further strengthening international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and improving preventive mechanisms in accordance with the Convention.
